The parable of the prodigal son outlines the victory for the two sides in the church. On one side is the prodigal group that lived their lives riotously out in the world and finally came to their senses and gave God their hearts. On the other side is the group that lived their entire life in the church never venturing outside to see or experience what this sinful and adulterous world has to offer.
Our Father knows that both need to be saved because not just some but all have sinned (Romans 3:23) and all deserve death (Romans 6:23). Therefore He saves both sides. It's a great victory for our Father, like the songwriter says ...
I heard an old, old story, how a Savior came from glory,
How He gave His life on Calvary to save a wretch like me;
I heard about His groaning, of His precious blood's atoning,
Then I repented of my sins and won the victory.
Jesus paid it all for us and all to Him we owe
Sin had truly left a crimson stain but He washed us white as snow.
Prayer: Thank You Lord for Your indescribable gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Rom.6:23b). Amen.
Encouragement: We all need the Savior, regardless of the life we've lived.
